Is January over yet? I have things to do and they are all taking place in February. You see, first is my birthday which is next week. Birthdays are always good. The following week I am heading to Seattle for a few days to visit a friend. I am staying on Bainbridge Island this year which will require a short ferry ride. I understand that Bainbridge Island is a nice place with a shopping area and stuff. I am more excited about the ferry ride than shopping, though.

I am moving into a house at the end of February and I am currently spending an enormous amount of time planning and dreaming about this house. It’s a 3br/2ba house with a fenced years which means I might be able to get a dog. Might.

I am obsessing about some things I want to do, including rehabbing the bathrooms, building a workbench in the basement and then making other things. I like to make things and this house will give me the space to do so. I want to be the ~~queen~~ king of DIY. Of course, I can’t do anything until I close on this house. AT THE END OF THE MONTH. I hope I can make it the next 30 days.

For now, I am stuck in January, about to begin packing, and dreaming about February.

Here’s a handy way to cut down on produce loss, food waste, and the required cleaning out of the science experiments in the fridge. I tend to eat what I recently bought as opposed to what is soon going to expire so I could definitely use this!

iMac will not sleep

I have had an issue with my iMac sleeping for the past few days and had to shut it down last night to keep it from waking up as the hum from the machine drives me crazy. My machine does not wake fully: There is no display but the fans turn back on and just run endlessly.

Here’s what I did to determine what is waking my machine.

In Lion (OS X 10.7) fire up terminal and type:

syslog |grep -i "Wake reason"

You will get something to the effect of this:

It would seem that UHC4 is our culprit but we don’t really have any information about what UHC4 is so we have to dig a little deeper.

In Console, check the kernel.log and filter using “wake”.

You will see something like this:

UHC4 appears to be my BT Keyboard. Checking more, all the recorded times look legit and it would seem that this is not the rogue waking that I am researching but me manually bringing the machine out of sleep by tapping the spacebar. What’s stranger, it does not seem that my Macintosh is recording the other waking periods that I am complaining about.

To the web. After more research I came across this post and tried doing the steps here.
Ultimately, disabling all of my sharing preferences and enabling them fixed the problem.

So… if your Mac is waking randomly and you’re getting no display then try the “sharing fix” first. If your machine is waking fully, display and all, try some of the steps above to determine the cause and you should be a few steps closer to resolving the issue.

Robyn was on SNL over the weekend and performed Call Your Girlfriend and Dancin on My Own from her 2010 Body Talk album. She killed it!

After checking that out see her do a cover of Alicia Keys’s (s’? ‘s? s’s?) Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart for an iheartradio performance.

And if that’s not enough, watch Who’s That Girl? over on YouTube. The feeling I get when I see the face she makes at :16-:17 confirms I have a crush on this girl. Swoon!

Melting Pot’s Curry Sauce Recipe

I took Sprout to the Melting Pot for her birthday last night. We love to go there for the fun, the cheese, the food, and the chocolate. I go for the curry sauce. I put it on everything. Here’s the supposed recipe, from not one, but two locations. I need to make this now!

1/2 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup real mayonnaise
1/2 cup mango chutney
2 teaspoons minced red onion
2 teaspoons curry powder
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Combine all ingredients in a food processor, and pulse several times until desired consistency is reached. Chill, covered in a bowl, 2 hours before using, so flavors may meld. Can be stored up to three days in refrigerator.
